Barcode Basics
Understand EAN, UPC, Code 128 and Code 39 and when each format is commonly used.
EAN and UPC
EAN-13 and UPC-A are common retail barcode formats. They are designed for products and point-of-sale workflows where compatible numbers and printing standards matter.
Code 128
Code 128 is a high-density format used widely for logistics, labels and internal identification. The receiving system should determine which symbology is appropriate.
Code 39
Code 39 is an older alphanumeric symbology still used in some industrial and identification systems.
